Let’s build a new
CTA Green Line train station
at Western Ave. & Lake St.
We NEED a CTA Green Line Western Ave. station:
The Near Westside community NEEDS basic CTA train service & new economic development.
Around Western Ave. from Grand Ave. to Madison St., there are vacant lots and empty buildings. A new Western Ave. station would yield massive economic development.
The Near Westside NEEDS basic fairness from Mayor Johnson & 27th Ward Alderman Burnett III.
All CTA lines crossing Western Ave. have CTA stations, not the Green Line! Most stations are spaced every half-mile, not on the Green Line!
CTA bus riders on Western Ave. – – 21,000 each day – – NEED this station.
Western has more bus riders than any other street per 2024 CTA statistics:
Near Westside families NEED an affordable way to get groceries.
Pete’s Fresh Market (Western & Madison) is the area’s only full-service grocery store. Families need a Western Ave. station to get groceries home.
27th Ward Voters NEED input on how their taxes are spent.
The Western Ave./Lake St. intersection is inside the Kinzie Corridor Tax Increment Finance District that has over $400 million. A Western Ave. station should cost about the same as the 2024 Damen Ave. station ($80 million.) There are plenty of TIF funds to pay for this.
